About Us

It has been said that there are two types of cricketers, the professionals who excel at the game and should be paid to play, and the village cricketer who do not and should be paid not to play!  That may be a little harsh, but most games you will hear the judgement of a particularly action or passage of play being summed up as 'that was so village!'

Village cricket predates the professional or organised game by many decades and is a cherished tradition that at Flyford Flavell Cricket Club (FFCC) we are proud to uphold and carry forward in the future.  It means that participation is not predicated on skill alone, attitude, sportsmanship and the willing two play whatever part you can counts.

Village cricket has always been pretty classless, the blacksmith and the Lord of the Manor were of the same level when they stepped across that boundary rope.

FFCC value sportsmanship and a willingness to uphold the spirit of the game much more than a 'win at all cost attitude'.  While we all like the sweet taste of victory, if everyone puts in their best effort it is inevitable that we will also experience the bitter tase of defeat from time to time.  Even then though there is are always funny moments to be relived and rehashed in the pub later.

While inclusivity was never one of the older traditions of village cricket, we now welcome players of all types, genders, races, faiths and whatever football team you support!

We also welcome back to the cricketing family those that perhaps enjoyed the game in their youth but have not played due to family commitments etc.

Equipment

For beginners, equipment is not essential as we usually have gear available for borrowing. We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get involved in the sport.
